Lentivirus (LV) is an RNA virus and a type of retroviral vector, named for its relatively long incubation period. This vector can integrate specific gene fragments into the host cell's genome, allowing the integrated gene to be stably inherited. Lentiviral packaging involves distributing the genetic sequences across several designed plasmids, which achieves both the functionality of the lentivirus and ensures operator safety. Lentivirus is a highly effective tool for gene delivery both in vivo and in vitro, capable of infecting both dividing and non-dividing cells. It is widely used for silencing, overexpression, and point mutation of target genes.
